Henna Party

Betty arranged a henna party for the girls on Tuesday. Hessna (the house help) came to do th henna and a friend of hers, Hannan, taught us how to dance. Here are Julie and Kara getting their hands decorated.

    One of henna's many uses in Morocco is for pregnant women. They have designs painted on their ankles to protect them throughout childbirth, and designs are passed down within the families, secret styles being kept in families for generations.

    Here's the information on the tattoos (courtesy of Temporary Body Art:

    "It will last anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks depending on your body temperature level, where the henna is applied, and how often you wash the hennaed area. The more you wash your henna tattoo the faster it will fade away. You can redo-it over to make it darker."
